Question:
I'm seriously considering buying an 18' MAXUM ski
boat with 4.3LX MercCruiser. Any opinions?
Answer:
Maxums are pretty boats and the 4.3LX is a good engine. What most people
complain about a year or two after buying a new boat is... "I wish it
had a bigger engine" and "I wish we had more room/storage". So, give it
some consideration. Anyway, a variable pitch prop should add a little
git-n-go if you find that you want more spunk later.
If possible, before buying a boat take it out for a few hours (not just
a quick test drive). Take an anchor and some friends, and sit for a
while (you'll likely spend more time just sitting than anything else
anyway). That will give you a good idea how comfortable the boat is.
