Question:
I went to check on my boat last week . Its in slip on Tenn River
and did I get a surprise. When I got to boat I noticed it was not
tired the same as I do.. I always double tie both ends.
Futher looking at it it was retied and was tied on rail at end and it
bent rail and I looked down at pontoon and there was a HOLE.....
DAMN nations I went off. The owners could have
walked the peir and retied it right.. Found out DOCK WAS SOLD..
to new owners 2 weeks ago..
I was told old owners did welding on peir and moved boats and evi
didnt tie back worth a flip
Alos the front clete was torn off and boat was tied at eye bolt on
front. ... anyway boat was not showing any leaning or like lot of
warter had came in.
The hole is 3 inches above water line 2 feet from end of pontoon.
Hole is size of a nickle... From END of pontoon to hole is a zillion
scratches that goes from end to hole for about 2 feet..
I had some GREAT STUFF in truck and duct taped hole with layers of
tape.. What is the preceedure... I was thinking of havin sheet put on
to cover hole and scratches. Run from hole to back and maybe half way
around pontoon so you only see one welded seam..
Is it .080 sheet.. can some one fill me in on how to fix. or what to
expect when I take it in.
Answer:
I AM A PONTOON BOAT DEALER IN CANADA.MY FIRST BIT
OF ADVICE IS TO TRADE THAT OLD BOAT ON A NEW
SUNCRUISER OR CRESTLINER THAT I SELL. IF NOT
MAYBE I CAN HELP. I HAD A VERY SIMMILAR PROBLEM
WITH A BOAT LAST SUMMER. MY FIRST INSTINCT WAS TO
DO JUST AS YOU THOUGHT AND FORM A SEAM WITH A
WRAP OF ALUMINUM OVER THE HOLE IN A SHAPE OF THE
TUBE. I GOT THE SAME GUY TO FIX THIS AS THE GUY
WHO DOES MY PROPS.TO MY SUPRISE HE WELDED OVER
THE HOLE IN THE SAME MANNER AS HE WOULD HAVE IN
BUILDING UP A PROP BLADE .HE THEN GRINDED IT
SMOOTH TO ITS ORIGINAL SHAPE. IT STUCK OUT LIKE A
SORE THUMB CAUSE IT WAS SO SHINY BUT AFTER ABOUT
2 WEEKS YUO COULDN'T TELL IT WAS DONE.INSURANCE
WOULD HAVE BOUGHT HIM ANEW LOG BUT HE WAS TOTALLY
SATISFIED.TRY THIS. BRAD GRADIDGE
