boat repair shop in the Houston for Gulf Coast 18 ?

Question:
boat repair shop in the Houston for Gulf Coast 18 ? There is one of these for sale near here and I am supposed to look at it pretty soon. However, I have never heard of this particular boat and know nothing about it. Does anyone have any info at all?

Answer:
I have a Gulf Coast 21 and am very happy with it. It is easy to sail and very forgiving.

It's a little heavy though due to the retractable lead keel so it's a little slugish in extremely light winds. I have a 4.5 horse motor which is not enough to control the boat in heavy winds, so I'ld get more motor if you're going to be manuvering around docks in rough winds.

Gulf Coasts were made until about 10 years ago in the Houston, Tx area. They are no longer in business so you have to retrofit or improvise if you even need parts.

My boat had been in the water for about 10 years when I bought it and there was no problem with any of the fiberglas, just scaled up badly and in need of a botom job. All the sails, hardware, and trailer were stored indoors and in excellent condition. I gave $2000 for mine, but she needed a lot work. I'ld be interested to kow what they are asking for the 18 footer your looking at?

Only other advise I'ld have is to make sure the trailer has a tounge extender or that you have access to a very steep ramp, because due to the weight I have to float the boat off the trailer ...it won't roll off due to the trailer cradle.

Somewhere I have the name of boat repair shop in the Houston area that knows the people that used to own Gulf Coast Manufacturing. If it's important to you let me know and I'll find it.
